Online recruitment in Southeast Asia’s IT sector maintained its growth streak this April, reporting healthy year-on-year hiring activity in the region, according to the latest Monster Employment Index (MEI) by Monster.com.
All markets registered positive growth in online hiring activity in the IT, Telecom/ ISP and BPO/ ITES industry.
Philippines reported the strongest growth across the three markets, at 20% year-on-year.
“The Philippines is likely to continue being a growth leader in this region, suggests IMF’s latest report. A strong domestic demand, regional trade recovery and a labour intensive economy has kept the country’s labour market upbeat, in line with the MEI,” said Sanjay Modi, Managing Director, Monster.com – APAC and Middle East.
The country’s young workforce is key and will play a pivotal role in boosting the economy, with local demand for workers in call centers and the business process outsourcing staying high. The job market is also expected to grow with the prospective inflow of investment worth USD925 million from the Middle-East which is estimated to produce around 26,000 jobs across various sectors.”
Singapore reported a 15% rise year-on-year in online hiring sentiment in the same space. Across occupational groups monitored by the index, Software, Hardware and Telecom jobs saw the strongest demand, with an 18% year-on-year growth in online job postings – an 11% slump from the previous month.
Over in Malaysia, while hiring momentum between March and April has softened, the IT, Telecom/ ISP and BPO/ITES sector remained the leading industry in online recruitment, reporting 12% growth between April 2016 and 2017.
Demand for software, hardware and telecom talent remained stable as well, with all three markets see positive hiring sentiments.
