On the heels of announcements by SingTel and M1 offering 10Gpbs fibre broadband service to residential customers, ViewQwest is launching its high-speed ViewQwest Black 10Gbps plan in partnership with custom PC maker Aftershock PC.

Aftershock PC is to build specially customized PCs with all the necessary components to take advantage of the 10Gbps line. The exclusive Aftershock Boost will be available from SG$2,800.

Compared to competing 10Gbps plans from Singtel and M1 which cost SG$189 a month with a two-year contract, the plan from Viewqwest is priced at SG$218. Additionally, ViewQwest Black 10Gbps users will also receive additional perks, such as a dedicated 24/7 customer support phone line, as well as next business-day on-site support. Other freebies include a free Eubiq power adaptor tower stand worth $338, along with a home telephone line and a virtual private network service for six months.

ViewQwest CEO Vignesa Moorthy said that ViewQwest’s 10Gbps line makes use of Metro Ethernet technology which offers symmetrical 10Gbps upstream and downstream speeds, unlike the rival GPon solutions which offers 10Gbps downlinks but only approximately 2Gbps up.

During internal tests done with Aftershock PC’s Boost, they had achieved speeds of 8Gbps for both upstream and downstream.

He did admit that he foresaw limited early adoption in the near term but felt that ViewQwest owed it to the market and customers to offer the “bleeding edge of technology”.
