Link, HGC join forces to provide free Wi-Fi service at HK shopping centres

Link Asset Management Limited (Link), manager of Link Real Estate Investment Trust, and Hutchison Global Communications Limited (HGC), the fixed-line division of Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited have announced a collaborative venture to provide speedy and reliable Wi-Fi service throughout Link’s 114 shopping centres. This will grant 30 minutes’ free Wi-Fi service each day, creating a better overall shopping experience for millions of visitors.

The collaboration involves phased rollout of high-speed Wi-Fi at Link’s 114 shopping centres, where coverage will be served by HGC’s 1Gbps optical-fibre backhaul in order to deliver premium service.

Shopping centres – including Link’s flagship Stanley Plaza, Lok Fu Plaza, Temple Mall, H.A.N.D.S and Lions Rise Mall properties – are expected to offer fast and stable wireless Internet service by early April 2016. The last phase is expected to be completed by mid-2017.

George Hongchoy, Chief Executive Officer of Link, said: “We are delighted to collaborate with HGC to link shopping centre customers with free high-speed Wi-Fi service. Being able to access information and various services online has become part of our daily lives. We hope this value-added offering will create a better overall shopping experience and make everyday life easier and more convenient for customers.”

Jennifer Tan, HTHKH Chief Operating Officer, said: “We are delighted to collaborate with Link in deploying a large-scale Wi-Fi network for the company’s millions of shoppers and visitors.

This joint effort not only reinforces HGC’s leadership in providing Wi-Fi coverage throughout the city’s major shopping clusters, but also allows the general public to enjoy fast and reliable wireless Internet service via HGC’s 1Gbps optical-fibre backhaul. We now look forward to working with Link on other innovative initiatives that will benefit shoppers and retailers by harnessing the capabilities of our high-speed Wi-Fi network.”

Visitors get 30 minutes’ free Wi-Fi each day

Visitors will simply access the “LINKwifi” landing page, without going through a registration process, in order to get online for 30 free minutes at any of Link’s 114 shopping malls.
