Hutchison Global Communications Limited (HGC), the fixed-line division of Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited haslaunched an anti-DDoS solution that provides a comprehensive network shield to fend off DDoS attacks. Included is a new cloud element to protect corporate networks in highly-robust fashion.
Of the two typical DDoS types, one is a high-bandwidth and distributed volumetric traffic attack that seeks to paralyse corporate network connectivity, while the second targets specific applications on a corporate server to cripple the system.
DDoS attacks exhaust an organisation’s network and system resources, adversely affecting network and business operations. A survey has revealed that the number of DDoS attacks in the first quarter of 2016 alone in Hong Kong was close to 30,000 and peak attack size exceeded 100Gbps.
Multi-layer network shield plus new cloud protection
The Anti-DDoS offering from HGC was devised in response to market demand. At the heart of the solution is a Security Operations Centre providing real-time supervision 24/7, along with traffic analysis, while three-layered protection enhances corporate network security.
Drawing on HGC’s Anti-DDoS platform, Tier-1 service thwarts volumetric network attacks by detecting abnormal traffic in real time. The Security Operations Centre then blocks hostile traffic from entering the customer’s network. No customer premises equipment is necessary.
Tier-2 service foils DDoS attacks on applications and requires protective hardware equipment to be installed in front of a firewall to stop harmful traffic entering the customer’s server. In the case of Tier-3 service for extreme volumetric protection with global anti-DDoS cloud, network menaces are detected by the Active Threat Level Analysis System (ATLAS), which also produces constant threat updates and boasts multi-terabit mitigation capacity to defend against flood attacks at cloud level.
The overall solution requires customers to use HGC’s Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) service, which adopts layer-3 Internet design and offers tightly-secure web access, complete with bandwidth assurance and service availability. All this ensures smooth business operations for corporate customers.
One-stop Anti-DDoS Solution exemplifies HGC’s transformation
HTHKH Chief Operating Officer Jennifer Tan said: “The Anti-DDoS Solution is HGC’s first network security offering and demonstrates our transformation from network provider to IT service consultant. We have widened our service provision spectrum from network and cloud to include a one-stop all-embracing network security solution, as part of our ability to serve corporate customers with a comprehensive portfolio of telecoms and other ICT services.
Flexible and competitively-priced tariff plans are available for HGC’s new anti-DDoS solution, and customers have the freedom to pick and mix services according to business need.
