The Myanmar Oriental Bank (MOB) is working with VMware to  better support the bank’s growing SME customers. With the deployment of VMware’s vCloud Suite, which includes VMware NSXand Virtual SAN, MOB will be deploying a full stack of Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC) solutions that enable and enhance enterprise agility, flexibility, security and scalability ultimately impacting the overall efficiency.

The opening of Myanmar’s economy and the growing dependency on mobile, with 49 percent users accessing internet on a mobile platform, has triggered the need for rapid speed and scale. With a software-defined data center architecture, MOB can achieve greater efficiency through automation and enable seamless and faster customer service delivery.

“Since inception in 1993, Myanmar Oriental Bank has always strived towards bringing global banking best practices and reliable and efficient banking services for our customers and the community at large. As a leading finance service provider, we work with a large number of SMEs handling substantial amounts of financial data,” said Daw Kyi Kyi Than, Managing Director, Myanmar Oriental Bank. “Our relationship with VMware will further enhance our customer service delivery, business productivity and enterprise agility. This is in line with our vision to be recognized as the bank of choice in Myanmar,” he added.

From customer information and financial records to providing financial intermediation for SMEs, MOB employees across its network of 37 branch offices constantly deal and manage large amounts of data. With increasing business growth, MOB needed to better manage the rising data volumes in a cost-effective and efficient manner.

Core banking system on virtualized infrastructure

By putting the company’s core banking system on VMware’s virtualized infrastructure, MOB is taking bold steps to leapfrog the competition through advanced technology. Apart from increasing business agility, flexibility and scalability through a software-as-a-service approach, MOB raises the security of customer data with VMware NSX’s micro-segmentation capabilities.

MOB’s belief in the software-defined data center vision represents the bank’s forward thinking approach and strengthens its reputation as an innovator in integrating global best practices in banking to boost business efficiency and service delivery.

“Technology and innovation are key enablers for businesses today and VMware is delighted to work with MOB on its transformational journey. We are committed to enabling Myanmar’s leading bank to achieve its business goals with greater efficiency and scale,” said Adrian Hia, General Manager, Nascent Markets (Southeast Asia), VMware.

To date, MOB has deployed VMware vCloud Suite with NSX and Virtual SAN.
