Building Materials Group, one of the business units of Hong Leong Asia, has been able to focus on its core revenue-generating business, while remaining nimble and accelerating the growth of its business across Asia. This achievement has been made possible after the company implemented a new SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution running on Hewlett Packard Enterprise servers.

This solution has helped the company achieve greater operational efficiency, improve its disaster recovery capabilities and lower the total cost of operations.

Hong Leong Asia’s Building Materials Group, a leading industrial materials conglomerate, sought to accelerate its business opportunities in Singapore and Malaysia. As part of the company’s expansion strategy, it recognized the need to move away from traditional, manual management and operational processes for tasks like data entry, order processing and billing to enable faster and more efficient business transactions.

The company decided to migrate to a SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) platform, which could better handle the increasing variety and volume of transactions.

“Given the aggressive pace and scale of developments in the construction industry across Asia, we needed to enable faster transactions to support our business growth. Ensuring a smooth transition to an integrated, robust and efficient ERP platform was critical to our success,” said Daniel Teh, General Manager for IT, Hong Leong Asia Building Materials Group.

“HPE offered a complete and cohesive solution with servers, storage and disaster recovery capabilities. The Technology Consulting Services team planned and executed the migration perfectly. This helped us deliver faster realization of business outcomes while ensuring minimal impact to our operations.”

To make the transition seamless, HPE Technology Consulting Services designed an infrastructure solution optimized for the new ERP platform, consisting of HPE Integrity rx2800 i4 Servers, HPE ProLiant DL380p Gen8 Servers and HPE 3PAR StoreServ 7200 Storage. In addition, HPE StoreOnce 2700 systems were deployed to create a robust disaster recovery solution.

The new platform helps Building Materials Group better manage a range of business functions – including finance, sales and distribution, materials management, production planning and project systems – more efficiently, aligned to business requirements in real-time, at a lower cost. It has significantly reduced transaction completion time from days to a matter of hours, delivering the automation and integration of various processes including logistics, fleet management, order taking and inventory tracking. Ultimately, this allows the business to quickly capture new market opportunities.

The new system also offers business critical information in a single view, eliminating unnecessary data duplication and improving the accuracy and reliability of data. This provides employees like operations managers, plant managers and management with highly accurate and reliable data they can act on immediately – helping them accelerate decisions that drive business outcomes aligned to their customers’ needs.
