The Windows 10 Anniversary Update has begun rolling out to Windows 10 PCs across the world in phases starting with the newer machines first.
In a blog, Microsoft says Windows 10 users don’t have to do anything to get the Update — it will roll out automatically through Windows Update if automatic updates have been enabled.
The company says that users who don’t want to wait until the update rolls out to their device can manually get it by going to Settings > Updates & Security > Windows Update. Simply click on “Check for Updates” and the Anniversary Update will appear as “Feature update to Windows 10, version 1607”.
With the new features and innovations coming in the Anniversary Update, Microsoft is also launching a new weekly video series called This Week on Windows (TWOW), where the team will bring you the latest in Windows news, apps, and tips.
The first episode gives an overview of the features and innovations coming in the new update, including:
- Windows Ink, which brings the power of Windows to the tip of your pen, letting you quickly and easily take notes, sketch on a screenshot or draw out an idea.
- Improvements to security with Windows Defender and Windows Hello for apps and websites.
- Increased power efficiency with Microsoft Edge to give you the most out of your PC’s battery life, and the arrival of extensions—including the Pinterest Pin It Button, Amazon Assistant, AdBlock, Adblock Plus and LastPass— to help you further personalize your browsing experience.
- Cortana’s availability above the lock screen so you can do things like ask questions, play music from your PC or set a reminder without unlocking your device.
- The new Windows Store, a one-stop shop for play and work which brings together the best of Windows and Xbox
- New innovations for the modern classroom, including a faster, simpler set up with all-new tools to help educators get up and running quickly.
